Crohn's disease is a chronic, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that affects the entire wall of the bowel or intestines. Crohn's disease can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract, as a result, the symptoms of Crohn's disease vary among afflicted individuals.
This disease is relatively new considering it was only discovered within the last 100 years. In 1932, it was named after Doctor Burrill Crohn. There are over 1 million people in North America that suffer from this disease.
There is no known medical or surgical cure for Crohn's disease. Instead, a number of medical treatments are utilized with the goal of putting and keeping the disease in remission.
